Be Your Own Boss

in Small-business

If you yearn to leave your current job or you have recently been made redundant could becoming your own boss provide you with the happiness and success that you have always dreamed of? As with anything in life success depends on the commitment that you give to your business.

Being your own boss isn't the same as being a manager. Anyone with leadership skills can become a manager but to become successful in business you must have certain attributes in order to succeed. You will need to be a "go getter "prepared to take a huge leap of faith to succeed. You will need to be committed, focused and hard working and be prepared to work long, irregular hours especially at the beginning. However the most important ingredient of all is passion. It is this passion that will drive you on to achieve your goals .It will also encourage people to buy from you, your employees to want to work for you and for sponsors to want to support you.

Once you have established that you have the desire to go into business it is then paramount to choose the correct business to set up. There are many business opportunities available and it is vital to carry out thorough research on any business you decide to set up, carefully researching potential sales for that particular business.

One business that is becoming ever more popular especially during the current credit crunch is on line businesses. This is because they are relatively low cost to set up and are generally recession proof. As with any other business it is important to carry out thorough research of these businesses and only to choose a reliable and proven company. There has been much negative press regarding on line businesses but it is better to form your own opinion based on the facts of your own research. It is also important if you decide to start an on line business that you ensure that you choose a coach who is successful in that business otherwise it will be a case of "the blind leading the blind".

Many companies claim that they can make you "rich quick" or that you can become a millionaire very quickly but these claims are not realistic. As with any business, success depends on the individual. If you have the right mindset and are prepared to work hard, stay focused and committed then you will reap what you sow and success will follow. The big difference is that you will make money for yourself and not help to build up someone else's financial empire.

If you do decide to take the plunge and become your own boss you generally won't fail as failure won't be an option. Most entrepreneurs succeed as quitting isn't an option. Richard Branson is a wonderful example of someone driving themselves on to succeed despite many obstacles. They believe that the hurdles they encounter merely strengthen their character to become the type of person they need to be to succeed.

There is no age limit to becoming an entrepreneur. Young, old, university educated or school leaver can become an entrepreneur. Ray Croc didn't start Mc Donald's until he was 52 years old. Currently there is also a growing trend of "mumpreneurs" whereby mums are becoming their own boss in order to create a work/life balance to suit their needs.

An entrepreneur is merely a person who recognises an opportunity and capitalises on it. As long as you have the right attitude and work ethic you will succeed and that success will not only bring financial security but more importantly it will help to create a healthier life/ work balance and bring much happiness.
